Ranked 4th at the end of day 1

Wow…What a day.  Robot ran off the field, robots got stuck together, robots flipped, robots climbed and robots shot boulders.  And the entire time the gym was jammed to the gills with crazy robotics fans cheering on their favorite teams.   And wow did our team pick up things fast. our first match was a loss with no breach that resulted in zero ranking points.  But, the last 6 matches were all wins with breaches so now we are up to 18 ranking points.  We are going to trying out the high goal shooter tomorrow morning in an effort to start increasing our OPR and make us a more desirable partner to teams ranked 1 and 2.

Today we also helped spread the word about STEM and FIRST y meeting with some of our VIP’s from the county, state and federal delegations that represent Walt Whitman Students.  We also had one of our sponsors from Castlewood builders stop by to see where all of the wood he donated went.  He was very impressed by the field and what the team built in 6 weeks. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to check out the competition.

Also and extra special thank you to our Principal for making this event happen and the words of wisdom he shared at today’s opening ceremonies.

Tomorrow we have between 3 and 5 qualification matches and we hope to continue to earn 3 ranking points in each match and end up in one of the top 3 ranking positions.  But no matter where we end up, this has been well worth all of the effort the team put in.
